**Lindsay Nakashima – Platinum-Level KonMari Consultant** Lindsay Nakashima will present Declutter with Purpose and Style the KonMari Way for the Best of Austin Living Team at 5 p.m. Thursday, February 27, at 11032 Cherrise Dr., Austin, TX 78739. _**Please RSVP with the QR code below:**_ ![](https://idx-acnt-ihouseprd.b-cdn.net/AR997646/file_manager/BOAL_2025-Event-Kon-Mari.png?width=600&height=825&aspect_ratio=600%3A825) Lindsay’s journey with KonMari began in 2010 when her son read “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing” (by Marie Kondo). Her son said it sounded like Lindsay had written it. Inspired, she became a consultant and has been practicing ever since. Lindsay also has a background in design and records management at the University of Texas at Austin. As an instructor, she excels at making complex ideas easy to understand, keeping the process fun, and working collaboratively with clients to create spaces that truly support their lives. **Please explain how you achieved Platinum-level KonMari Consultant.** _I became a KonMari Consultant during COVID and was one of the fastest to achieve certification. Since then, I’ve guided clients in transforming their spaces and served as a panelist for consultant training programs across 13 countries. I’m now approaching the highest certification level—Master Consultant—further deepening my expertise in helping others create joyful, organized lives._ **1. What makes the KonMari Way of decluttering different?** _Unlike traditional tidying, KonMari focuses on decluttering by category—not location—allowing for a more intentional and lasting transformation. The categories are simple: clothing, books, papers, miscellaneous items, and sentimental objects. The goal is to keep what truly sparks joy and serves a purpose in your life._ **2. You also offer advice in digital decluttering. Please explain your process for achieving this.** _Digital clutter is like paper clutter—it accumulates quickly! I help clients sort and streamline their digital files by focusing on three key categories: pending, frequently accessed, and essential records. Adapting records management strategies to personal life makes digital organization much more manageable._ **3. In addition to workshops, what other services do you offer, such as working one-on-one with a client to declutter his or her space?** _Yes! I work closely with clients in different ways. Some prefer hands-on sessions where we declutter together, while others delegate sorting to me so they can focus on their daily lives and make final decisions later. I also offer guidance and check-ins for those who prefer a self-paced approach._ **4. How do you charge for your services - by the hour, by the project, etc.?** _For small projects, I charge by the hour. For larger projects, I offer packages that provide more value and flexibility._ **5. How do you balance your role as Executive Director of the Japan-America Society of Greater Austin (JASGA) with your decluttering services?** _Both roles complement each other! As Executive Director, I organize language programs, events, and meetings—all of which require structure and efficiency. Both KonMari and JASGA focus on Japanese culture, organization, and creating joy through intentional living_ **6. What is the best way for someone to contact you if they would like to utilize your services?** _Email or phone—let’s set up a time to discuss what works best for you!
