Small Business Highlight: Lisa Speck Massage

Marie July 14, 2023

Client-centered work and the opportunity to make a tangible difference in people’s lives long have attracted Lisa Speck. “Being a massage therapist allows me to do just that,” she says. “I get to help my clients become more aware of their bodies and assist them in achieving their wellness goals.” “The joy and satisfaction I drive from seeing the positive impact on their well-being goes beyond words,” she adds. “It’s truly a rewarding and fulfilling career, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.” #### Q: What sets you apart as a massage therapist? A: I incorporate movement and stretching as key components of the massage process. This helps not only in achieving deeper relaxation but also in promoting better overall functionality and mobility for the client. I also specialize in longer massage sessions. This allows me to better understand the unique contours and tension patterns of one’s body and identify and address the root of any discomfort or tension. With ample time to work through different muscle groups, I’m able to create an atmosphere where stress and worry melt away, replaced by a sense of serenity and well-being. #### Q: What is restorative massage, which you offer? A: This combines soothing relaxation techniques, deep tissue work and movement to help a client’s whole body let go and reveal hidden issues. Regular sessions bring lasting results. We all go through stress and even trauma every day, and our bodies tend to hold on to all that physical, mental and emotional baggage. Eventually, our muscles start to protest, and that’s when the pain sets in. #### Q: What is mat-based massage? A: Picture this: You’re chilling in your everyday clothes, lying down on a cozy mat on the floor. Instead, you’re eased into a rhythm of therapeutic stretching, invigorating movement and deep, tension-melting compression. It’s like an interactive yoga session, but someone else does all the work. #### Q: What do you like to do when you’re not massaging? A: I’m always open to learning new things – whether it’s about the latest research in massage therapy, a new recipe or understanding more about birds I watch. When I’m not kneading knots and tension away, I’m peering through a pair of binoculars, sharing a laugh with loved ones, snuggling with my dog or diving into a fascinating new subject.
